About us...

I commenced showing beagles in 1969 as a child and titled my first beagle (Ch Bonnymead Gay Blade) whilst still at school. I bred two litters of beagles in partnership with Jill Kirk producing two champion Best in Group winners. Then in 1980 I obtained my first American cocker spaniel starting a thirty year love affair with the breed.Over the years l have bred over 40 champions including Grand champions, multl Best in show winners (both Specialty and All breeds) both here and in New Zealand-in fact NZ Grand /Aust Ch Sunfire To Hell N Back is still the only American Cocker in Australia to have won a specialty from the puppy class (which he did under renowned specialist Dr Alvin Grossman). This dog was my all time favourite and there were 6 years between his first and last Best in Shows! The BIS2 winner at Melbourne Royal in 2007 was another Sunfire -Ch Sunfire Absolute - who is a direct descendent of my two American imports.

In 1998 my son James was born meaning not as much time for the coats and in 1999 a change in direction occured with the arrival of the first Sussex spaniel to Sunfire . This dog, later to be the breeds first all breeds Best in Show winner in Australia was Gr Ch Waldarlea Whatzit. He has rewritten the record books for the breed in this country. As l don't do things by half measures Whatzit was joined by three English Sussex girls and we are starting to see the results of these matings ! I commenced judging gundogs at open show level on 1987 but work and family committments conspired and l wasn't until 2001 that l obtained my championship show license. This was followed by Hounds in 2003,Terriers in 2006 and Toys in 2007.ICurrently l am a trainee for Non Sporting and Working..I have judged in New Zealand - both islands and all states of Australia except the Northern Territory.

The end of 2010 saw the arrival of the young black American cocker Fielgar Time Traveller (imp UK) - Jag at 13 months is titled and already a Royal CC winner along with 17 class in groups and 5 in show including a Runner up in group. Jag was also Best in Show at both American cocker Spaniel Club of Victoria Championship shows in 2011 under Chris Bexon (UK) and Cindy Vogls (USA) Four 'Sunfires' have finished their Grand Championship this year (2011)and the future is looking bright with a number of litters (the first for 3 years) in the pipeline!Sunfire was also the Number One Gundog Breeder in Australia (DOL)  In 2012 there are already 4 new Supreme Champions and one champion finished!
